OBD-2 I2C adapter not working on Pontiac

I have been unsuccessful in reading any PIDs from my 2002 Pontiac Bonneville. After adding a print() statement to COBDI2C::init() , I got a value of "OBD Y" for the 'recvbuf' variable.
I would like to at least figure out what that means since I am able to get readings from a Toyota Camry using the same setup...
