Romeo 4WD Power Problem

Hi Admin,
a few weeks ago I purchased from DFRobot :
- 1 Romeo 2010
- 1 4WD Mobile Platform
- some others items (sensors, 9v battery adapter...)
Everything is ok except one point, the only way to power the board is the USB cable.
I'm not able to power the Romeo by :
- connecting the 5 AA batteries pack to the (6) Motor Power entries and setting the (5) Motor Power Jumper.
Or
- Removing the (5) Motor Power Jumper and connecting a 9v battery with a jack adapter to the (12) Romeo power input.
The Romeo + 4WD platform work fine if the board is connected to the computer with USB cable and the DC motor powered with the 5 AA batteries pack ... too bad for a mobile platform.
Any advice ?
Thanks
PS : Sorry for my broken english.

2013-04-08 15:49:59 Thanks Ricky,
I solved the problem by:
1. Use Arduino IDE v1.4 fresh install on another PC.
2. Force specify the port on preferences.txt
3. Pressed the reset button when uploading.
It works. The problem was caused because of full memory usage, because I tried to upload the Super Mario Bross songs as listed on www.linuxcircle.com. Now it works perfectly because I use combination of standard array and PROGMEM, which stores the notes in another chip.

Try to press the reset button to see if the com port appears.

Is there a way to fix this?
I've had this for almost 2 months, but tonight, when I tried to upload Arduino sketch it stopped working. The board simply cannot take the codes, and the serial port /dev/ttyACM0 simply not recognised by 3 different computers.
Is there a way to reset it to factory default? Or maybe is there a chip that got burnt and can be replaced?
Please help me! I need the robot urgently

2011-04-15 15:53:20 Hi,
I solved the problem and got the motors running...I simply wasn't loading the correct software, but now it's fixed.

2011-04-14 08:04:52 I'm just getting started with the Romeo board and I found that the board will power on with the USB cable, but not with the 5 AA battery pack, i.e., it doesn't seem to be getting any power from the battery pack. I checked the battery pack with a voltmeter and it is putting out 7.95 Volts, so I would think there is enough power there to activate the board. Does this mean the board is bad, i.e., if the board were fried would I be getting any power at all, even from the USB cable? I can still program the board and control the LEDs via the Arduino software (when the USB is attached). My main question is, how do I know if the board is bad and I need a new one, or is it just a faulty connection? I have the VIN=MVIN jumper on the board.

And if you power the board via the Power IN jack, the PWR led should be on. Maybe there is a hardware issue .

2011-02-15 13:15:53 Hi Admin,
I followed your recommendation and I tried a 6xAA battery pack with 6 NiMH batteries (almost 7,4V).
Unfortunately the problem is still there.
I've noticed 3 behaviour following the way the Romeo board is powered :
1- Via Usb cable and 5 batteries connected to motor power (6) : OK and works fine.
2- 9V Via Power IN jack : nothing, all the LED of the board are OFF.
3- Via motor power (6) and motor power jumper (5) on : the 3 LED (pwr, rx, tx) are ON half a seconde and then OFF.
It seems the board is not able to regulate the 5V.
I've been very careful and applied the power correctly (no reverse polarity).
I purchased an Arduino UNO and its 2A Motor shield too, it works fine in any way with the 4WD Mobile Platform.
Hope you'll find a solution.
Best Regards

2011-02-14 18:33:23 The best way to power romeo is via its Motor Power Terminal. And the minimum voltage is 7.2V. For 5AA battery pack, if you use Alkaline type, 5AA should have 1.5x5=7.5V which should be sufficient to power the Romeo and its motor. If you use NiCd/NiMH type battery, you only get 1.2x5=6V which is not enough to power the Romeo.
Our recommendation is to use 6xAA battery pack to make sure that all AA battery will work.
