It seems that my Insect_bot bit the dust?

[s]I read on how easy this kit is to assemble, program, and enjoy but i think I am having issues. here is the situation i am having:[/s]

Chargeing the battery, and plugging the battery into the shield (with beetle ontop and soldered) does not lead to a Power on light, but it leads to the whole board being grounded (power source pins go completely to 0 from nearly 4 volts before switch is closed).

[s]Also, upon trying to connect the beetle to my PC i get no notification of a new device being connected, Nor does the device list in my device manager, or is there any way to install the drivers for the device sense i cannot see it. [/s]

I followed the kit instructions on instructables, however i fear i may have missunderstood a step. When connecting the battery to the board, as the last thing to do, it tells to pay attention to the direction of the power, but uses VCC, and VDD however the shield shows....+/- so i just plugged it in and ....tried it, nothing, so i turned it off and tried it the other direction, and nothing.I figured the battery was bad, but that is not hte case. please help !
2014-06-01 06:40:21 Finally fixed it, on the shield (well my shield) the power connection for the beetle to connect to the shield was soldered a bit off, causing that Part of the solder to be touching the ground plate on the PCB. It was a lucky guess, and thankfully i work at a tech lab. So anywho, thank you for trying to help but my little guy is walking like a boss now! userHeadPic kdshawee
2014-05-31 02:44:39 The power indicator does not turn on when the battery is plugged in and the switch is turned to on. I will get a photo later today.  But the picture looks exactly like the picture on the wiki just the light doesn't turn on.

Edit: photo

2014-05-30 19:41:20 Hi kdshawee,
OK I have known your bettle is fine.
Sorry for my poor comprehension, you mean the shield is in short circuit?
Does the power indicator is on?
It is better to attach a a photo about you connection.

2014-05-30 19:04:29 Sorry let me reiterate: my beetle board is fine, my robot is fully assembled my issue right now is the fact that my.....beetle shield has a big shorting issue: with the switch off power reads just fine when the battery is connected (using a multimeter), with the switch closed it leads to the + and - terminals throughout the board to get grounded.

Upon further investigation all of the + terminals are shorted to the - terminals in some way which explains why the board shorts itself out. The switch, the led, the capacitor and the resistor are working as intended, but any of the I/O shield (S + -) [stands for (signal pos neg)] also the power connectors for the beetle to be soldered to the board read as a short. (The +      -, are connected in some way)

How do I fix/ diagnose this? One way I could do it is remove 1 part at a time...then check if the short is gone. But it could be internally...

2014-05-30 18:41:52 Hello kdshawee,
Sorry, I am a little confused.
Could you attach a photo about your hardware device?

And bettel is using mega32u4, it should be Leonardo in the device manager.
What is OS of your computer? and IDE version?
Does the power led light on?

2014-05-30 08:23:02 just checked the bottom board (shield), the sheild has a short or doesn't recognize the power from the battery. kinda weird.

Edit: switch could be faulty?
edit2: i checked all +/- on the shield, and they are all shorted (+/- for the inputs/outputs, and +/- for the connections into the connections to the beetle) So in a sense, gonna be really hard to debug on my end, and i know that i didn't cause the short on the shield.
