RGB LED Strip Driver Shield with an addressable LED Strip

I just got a 4 Meter Addressable LED Strip 60LED/Meter. Will this work with the LED Strip Driver Shield? I see that the Strip driver shield has
12V, G,R,B outputs to connect to the LED. I see that the pins in use are
G=D11
R=D10
B=D9
and the wires on my strip are
+5V
D1
GND
I should be able to use the GND pin on the arduino and either of the G,R,B spots on the shield for D1. My question is more so about the power. the strip says +5V. I know I can also hook the wire into the 5V spot on the arduino but can I hook it into the 12V on the shield?

2016-01-26 23:05:24 if the strip is rated at 5v it's probably best not to do that. To power a long strip you need more amps rather than voltage, usually about 1a per meter.
Hope this helps.
