I am using XBee Shield for my XBee S2 module. The question is, when the module in sleep periode(I configure it with SM=4), what is the sign of the XBee shield? Is it red led on XBee Shield blinking fast than usual?

You should download DIGI's XCTU tool by using that you can set all parameters for the XBEE and that you must do before the XBee code from the arduino XBee library will behave as expected. The sleep-time as well - end divces always sleep the parameter 4 means it sleeps. Router will never sleep and then you also need a coordinator - these tree devices are set by firmware update using the XCTU tool

Did you had other Xbee's available before you tried?
I'm curious about this as well, I quick look at Google was not very resourceful.
