Software screen dimming

Regarding the 7” 800x480 TFT DSI Capacitive Touchscreen for raspberry, I was wondering if it's possible to adjust the brightness of the screen via software, or is the only way to do this by using an external potentiometer?

Sorry, this screen does not currently support adjusting screen brightness through software. This aspect may be optimized in the future.
