FireBeetle ESP32 and DFPlayer Mini

Have a FireBeetle ESP32 (DFR0478) that I need to connect a DFPlayer Mini to. So far I have had no luck. Have opened the example DFPlayer files, have changed to the HardwareSerial and made sure my pins were D2 & D3. Still nothing. Constantly tells me to check the connection or put an SD card in.

Tried the same examples with a UNO 3 and it works fine.

What am I doing wrong or can the FireBeetle not talk to the DFPlayer???

I guess the library is not compatible with firebeetle.
