Replacing Espressif module on FireBeetle 2?

I'm looking to replace the ESP32 module with a different module which has a connector for the WiFi antenna instead of a built-in antenna.

I've tried to use a hot air gun to remove the module, and since there isn't a good way to get a hold of the whole module, I end up using tweezers on the module shield instead.

Whenever I try to pull off the module, the shield comes off and the module stays attached.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to replace the Espressif module?

It's definitely not preferred, but I want to use the Firebeetle 2E with its onboard FPC connector and need the power of ESP32.

Sounds like I'll need to search Aliexpress and hope I get lucky, or commission a custom board?

I do not think replacing the module is a good idea. Even if you succeed in replacing the ESP32 module, the Firebeetle may not function.

You can buy a separate  ESP module according to your requirement:
