GP8302 20mA I2c freezes after a while

I am using the GP8302 20mA I2c successfully in a PI project. Unfortunately, after a while the i2c communication stops and the device can no longer be discovered

I can only fix this by resetting the 24V power supply. a reset of the pi is not sufficient .

It's there a way to prevent this? What could cause the issues?

Also what is the alarm pin for?
