SPI Problem Bluno Beetle

As the topic says, I have a problem with the SPI-Interface between a Arduino Mega2560 and my Bluno Beetle BLE chip. The problem is, I don't wan't to use cable between the SS pins of the two because of room issues. Now I don't know if there is some coding trick to bypass the physical connection. I tried to simply set the SS pin (PB0 for the ATMega 328P on the Bluno Beetle) as Input and LOW, but as the Interface is not working, I'm pretty sure that's the problem.
