Voice recorder noise on playback DFR0699

There is a crackling noise on playback, even if I have not said anything into the microphone. I am running the device off batteries and it has no screening, if that makes a difference. It is not connected to any external processor at the moment.

Well it seems like this module is going to recycling. Looking around there may be other options out there worth trying.
