Raw API use of Gravity Color Display (DFR0997)

I would like to use the DFR0997 I2C/UART display with something that is not an Arduino or Microbit, for which libraries have been provided.
Is there a reference on how to communicate with it at the low level (UART/I2C) to make it display stuff please?
Also, it has a USB-C for firmware updates: where can I get the latest firmware please?

DougBrooklyn The communication protocols are not publicly available, you can contact DFRobot technical support for a list of internal communication protocols.
As for firmware upgrades, we don't have a version 2 firmware available yet. Therefore, the firmware upgrade method is not disclosed for the time being. When the firmware is disclosed later, the corresponding description will be added on the wiki.
