Beetle ESP32-C6: Is it safe to use battery without protection circuit

I know that the board has integrated lithium battery charging managemen but is it safe to connect plain battery w/o any protection circuit directly to board? And should I limit my USB charger max current or Beetle board takes care of that as well?

Battery protection for either the Beetle or FireBeetle is handled by the on-board Li-ion battery charge management chip, as long as you are using a 3.7V Lipo (full as of voltage 4.2V). There is no need for a battery with protection circuitry.
