Dfplayer powered speaker not working

Hello, I have a dfplayer mini connected to a wemo mini. The d1 wemo is powered via the usb, with a 3amp source, and the 5v pin powers the dfplayer. The dac channels both work fine, however I am getting nothing from the spk channel.i have run them concurrently in another similar setup. I have the volume set to 30. Are there any power requirements or something else that might cause the powered output not to work while the dacs do?
