Gravity: I2C Triple Axis Accelerometer - LIS2DH (±16g) Problem

Hello,

I have run into a problem while using the Gravity: I2C Triple Axis Accelerometer - LIS2DH (±16g).  I have put together a system where a stepper motor controls a drive shaft that angles a platform between 0° and 50°.   I use the LIS2DH to initially find 0° horizontal for this plate.  It was working fine on a test rig that I had put together where the triple axis was out in the open.  When I put together a prototype and placed the triple axis sensor inside of a sheet metal enclosure it seems that the angle is off by about 5 degrees.   The sensor is also near a stepper motor on the prototype.  From what I have tested it seems that magnet forces aren’t affecting the sensor.  It seems as though what affects the sensor the most is if it is in a small sheet metal enclosure.  Is there anything that I can do to mitigate these issues?  Is there anything I can do to place this sensor inside of a sheet metal enclosure and it have the same results as if it was out in the open?  Is there anything that you know of that can disrupt the sensor in the way that I am having issues?

Thanks,
