I am trying to get multi serial communication with a mega with a mega shield plugged into it.
First I tried without the shield: everything works great; I upload the sketch and I can send and receive data from the mega (I use a ftdi plugged into tx1 and dfrobot).
But if I plug the mega shield and plug the ftdi via the COM1 header, I can only send data to the mega and see it on the terminal monitor, and when I type into the monitor nothing comes back via COM1.
Also I cant upload a sketch when the shield is plugged, I get a timeout from avrdude (avrdude: stk500_2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout), and the upload never finishes.
What am I doing wrong?

2011-11-25 19:37:27 Hmm that's weird: I remarked that the end of the shield was very close (read in contact) with the usb plug. I pulled the shield abit to avoid any contact and now everything works great, go figure.
Anyway now I am happily using the mega shield to talk to the xbee module I plugged into it!
