Tech Support: 16x2 LCD display with a TWI/I2C interface (DFR0063 )

Question

Hello,

A week or so ago, I purchased a 16x2 LCD display with a TWI/I2C interface attached to it. The display works great!

I need a larger display, though, and I have found another 20x4 display by Devantech. I received this module today but it doesn't work over I2C. The smaller "backpack" on this board that provides the I2C connection looks different than the one on the LCD I purchased from DFRobot.

My question is: can I use the 1602 controller from my 16x2 display on this larger 20x4 display? I'd obviously need to remove it from the small LCD and solder it onto the back of the large one, and that appears to be OK since both LCD modules have the same number of pins.

I guess the real question is: Can that module address all 20x4 characters or can it only do 16x2? If it can do 20x4, is it possible to purchase just that backpack board so I can leave my 16x2 in working condition?

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Hi Chad,

It is not possible for this module to address more than 16x2, and we do not sell it as a stand alone.

I have purchased a lC2 Backpack from Epictinker (PN DFR0175) and a LCD 20*4 display (PN LCD108B6B)
For some reason they are not working, all I am getting is the backlighting. I have purchased the same pair before and they worked great!? The only difference I see with the backpack is that on the one that worked, there was a second connector for the display coming out the bottom. The ones that I have gotten since just have the buckle connector coming out the right hand side (looking at it from the back) of the board.

Is this not the correct backpack for the 20*4 LCD display???

If not what is the correct one?

Thanks!

2014-10-28 18:02:31 In theory, yes.

GSM shield is only using the Serial port and three driver pins. So the I2C and SPI interfaces are free.
It should be compatible
