Are Gravity Shields Needed for Gravity Sensors?

Hi,

I am planning on using an Arduino Mega 2560 Rev 3 and an Adafruit Motor Shield v2.3 to control stepper motors. I also need to connect 3 Carbon Dioxide Sensors, and I would like to use Gravity: Analog Infrared CO2 Sensor for Arduino (SKU SEN0219), but I can't use the Gravity sensor shield. Is it possible to use that sensor without the Gravity shield, and if so, can you provide some guidance on how I would do so (any libraries and sample code would be greatly appreciated).

Thanks,
A
