Using DFRobot 2WD MiniQ with XBee?

I'm working with the 2WD MiniQ Robot to drive in a certain direction at a certain speed depending on an input from the keyboard (a number) and it works perfectly when I have it connected to my computer via USB, but I'm wondering if I can make it wireless using XBee series 1 modules?
I know it will work wirelessly using the WPM modules, but I want a longer range of operation which I could get from the XBee modules. The robot uses an XBee adapter to connect to the computer, so is there any way I can use XBee series 1 modules to get it working wirelessly?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You mean when you plug the usb cable, everything is Okey, you could control it from xbee side.
But when you begin to use the batteries, it won't wotk?

2014-02-03 13:09:23 Hi, I have another question regarding the MiniQ Robot and using it with XBee S1 modules.
I understand the hardware connection of the XBee and the robot. I have the robot programmed to follow commands coming from my keyboard and to avoid obstacles at the same time. I'm having trouble using the XBee to send the commands wirelessly.
Everything works on the robot when it is connected using USB, but it doesn't seem to recognize anything coming from the XBee.
My XBees are configured to talk to each other in AT mode and they can control LEDs and switches on breadboards, but I can't get them to send a command from my computer in X-CTU to the miniq.

Well, the miniq 2wd support almost all xbee control. I have tested by myself.
Plug xbee module into xbee socket on the board, not the adapter.
I tested it by xbee S1 , bluetooth bee and wifi bee.
And the baud rate of xbee should be set same to the sketch. then the command will be recognized.
PS?sometimes if your xbee can't be recognized by X-CTU ,you can try unplug it to the adapter, and plug it immediately again. when it can be read ,try to restore it. Maybe it will work.

2013-10-29 17:53:51 I do not want to use any WPM modules. I want to use XBee modules. I know how the XBee modules work, I've used them before. I just want to know if there is any way that I can connect the XBee modules to the DFRobot MiniQ?

I have a little understand. Do you want to control your Xbee S1 by your WPM module?
XBee S1 module takes the 802.15.4 stack. it means it only use zigbee to communicate the other.WPM module use WIFI to communicate with your PC. They are different.
If you want to use S1 xbee. You need a couple of xbee S1.
Here is a simple guide about S1

2013-10-26 08:14:55 Hi,
I have the Series 1 XBee modules. They aren't wifi or bluetooth.
Here is the link to what I'm using:
https://www.sparkfun.com/products/8665
When I tried just connecting the XBee module to the XBee adapter that connects the MiniQ to USB to the computer, it didn't work. And then when I tried connecting the XBee to the slot on the board for the Wireless Programming Modules, that didn't work either and I think it fried my XBee module because it no longer works. So I ordered a new one, but I want to know if it is supposed to work through the XBee adapter before I break another one.
Thank you for helping me!

Which kind of xbee do you have? WIFI or Bluetooth bee. These two kind of bee can control by your smartphone or your computer.
Just plug your bee into the xbee socket. It will help you to control your robot
