Charging a 7.4V Battery While Using It

Hey folks,

I’m working on a project that requires a bit more voltage than the 3.7V Li-Ion batteries that are easy to find on various hobby sites, so I’m looking at 7.4V ones. I would really like to be able to charge while using them; does anyone have any experience with this part:

… and does it look safe to use it to charge while the battery is in use (i.e., by powering my circuit off the battery +/- terminals while also connected to USB for charging)? If I combined it with something like this battery:

… which has a protection circuit, am I likely to be able to avoid starting a fire/blowing something up?

Thanks in advance!
