Scanning for nearby devices

I'm trying to understand how I scan for beacons using the beetle. For my purposes I have two beetles - one acting as a beacon and one that should be scanning.
I would like to be able to get some kind of unique identifier for the devices which were found in scanning. Is this possible?
Thanks!

I've read the wiki quite thoroughly - could you at point me at the sections in question?
At the very least could you tell me if what I'm asking is possible or not? I don't see any AT commands that allow you get information about other devices from the beetle, or how to establish a connection. I only see that a mobile app can make a connection. Is it possible for one beetle to connect to another?
