DFPlayer Pro ADKEY control

I am intending to use the Player Pro in a museum exhibit. There will be just one, short, audio file loaded into the device and this should play once when the user presses a button. The default mode appears to be 'repeat forever' once the play button has been pressed.
Although the device can be set to 'play once and pause' by pressing ADKEY K3 Switch Play Mode key 5 times, this mode does not appear to be 'remembered' if the device is switched off and then on again at a later date. However, the volume setting does appear to remain at the level set previously.
Is there any way, using only the ADKEYS, to get the device to retain the 'mode' setting?
