Long range IR sensor

I've been trying to track down an IR sensor for a project that has a detection range of ~1000 meters or greater. I can't seem to find any sensors that have detection ranges past about 10 meters at the most.

edit: I'm not looking for a laser or a long distance thermometer. I'm looking for an IR imaging sensor.

edit 2: To further clarify, I'm looking for a Thermal Sensor, not an IR light sensor or "night camera." A thermal radiation imaging sensor.
