DFR0781 Unresponsive

I've tried AT commands, both codes from the wiki (with and without the 1k resistor which the wiki says to use but then doesn't), and my own code just to boot it into a different playback mode but it doesn't respond. It'll boot to Bluetooth which seems to be the standard but won't do anything else. I've tried two separate modules as well but neither works.

 

Has anyone had any luck getting one to do anything, is there something I'm missing?

I'll leave this here in case anyone else runs into this problem. You need to use hardware serial like a TTL converter or an Uno with reset shorted to ground at baud rate 115200, then pass is the command AT+CT01 to set it to 9600 baud so software serial will work.

Do you use it with a speaker with an amplifier?
