DFR0682 Latte Panda UPS HAT problem

This is my first post on this forum.

I am having some problems with the Latte Panda 2 Alpha and the UPS HAT.

Basically I have everything configured under Ubuntu, I have flashed the Arduino and it shows up normally as a UPS under the OS. The UPS seems to be charging all 3 batteries to 100% (I measured the voltage and they are around 4.17V each). 

The problem is that whenever I disconnect the Type-C PD cable from the UPS HAT, the Latte Panda gets powered off too… So this defeats the whole purpose of a UPS.
 

Can someone please guide me what can be debugged to find the issue?
