DFRduino Player - a question about overheating

When I set it up on my arduino using the 5v power the MP3 chip seemed to get really hot and no sound. I read threw the doc. I may try a different MicroSD card but I am concerned about the heat on that MP3 chip and advice would be great.
2011-06-24 00:54:21 Hi DHB,

It is not normal for the chip to get so hot immediately, maybe after 15 minutes or so it should be pretty warm. Are you sure you didn't flip the wires? The colors are not standard so please double check your connections. The SD card LED will blink if it does not find the "sound" folder in the SD card, so make sure you place a folder called "sound" in the SD card along with some music to try. Use a 1GB microSD formatted to FAT and not FAT32

The music file can not be longer than 8 characters so try renaming them to something like track1.mp3

Also, make sure that the I2C/UART jumper is set to I2C

2011-06-23 06:41:44 Thanks Jessy for posting my question.

I am using the dfrduino sound player (DFR0112) and the Arduino Duemilanove powered via USB.

I did have other components hooked up to it but removed them to try this board

The DFR0112 is hooked up to the 5v and ground and analog pins 4 and 5.  The led on the DFR0112 just flashes witch from reading the manual is a miroSD card problem.  The mp3 chip on the board got quite hot so I disconnected the power and tried a different card and it did the same thing.  I have no idea what could be causing this heat. Is this normal for that ship to give off excessive heat?

2011-06-22 21:24:59 Hi,

Could you please give us some more detail about your setup?

What is the model number of the MP3 player you are using (is it the dfrduino sound player?)
What else do you have connected to the Arduino? Which arduino board are you using?
Are you powering the arduino via usb or external power?

Regards,

Hector
